Israeli Knesset could cut off UNRWA's aid to Palestinians

There it is in black and white, folks. If anyone still wasn't sold on the fact that the war in Gaza is a genocide, the Israeli Knesset (legislature) is voting this week on whether or not to make it illegal for certain humanitarian aid groups to deliver supplies to Gaza. If signed into law, IDF soldiers will be permitted to kill, on-sight, aid workers under Israeli law.

UNWRA should have been closed decades ago and the Palestinian refugees it serves integrated into their host countries like every other group of refugees.. Palestinians are unique among refugee groups in having their own UN program just for them. All other refugee assistance organizations have the goal of reducing the number of refugees they serve; UNWRA is the only one that has increased that number, from 700,000 in 1948 to 5 million today. This has trapped Palestinians in permanent, inherited refugee status and has only prolonged their misery by dangling the impossible dream of return to the land their great-grandparents left and makes a final settlement of a permanent Palestinian homeland that much harder to achieve.
@LeopoldBloom Alternative view here: Maybe Israel shouldn't commit ethnic cleansing and genocide?

@TheDeathOfOzymandiaz Now you're just talking crazy talk.
@TheDeathOfOzymandiaz Does that apply to Hamas, or it's OK if they do it?

What do you think the US would do if Mexico bombed San Diego because they weren't happy with the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo and wanted the Southwest back?

Here's my post on obstacles to the two-state solution. If you can solve these, you deserve a Nobel Prize.

@LeopoldBloom I honestly expected better of you. Israel has been actively pursuing a program of genocide ever since October 7th, which was objectively a horrible thing for Hamas to do, but doesn't justify anything.
@LordShadowfire It's not genocide unless you're going to call the bombings of Dresden, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki genocide. I will say it's a disproportionate response, but Hamas could have ended it by surrendering and giving up the hostages. The prospect of a Palestinian state is even more remote than it was on Oct. 6, but of course that's not what Hamas or even the Palestinian people want.

@LordShadowfire If the Palestinians were willing to live with the Israelis, there might be other options. But when their goal is an Arab ethnostate with no Jews in it, it's not realistic to tell the Israelis to just put up with rockets and random attacks.

Speaking of ethnic cleansing, that's why there are Jews in Israel in the first place. European Jews fleeing the pogroms and the Holocaust, and Mizrahi Jews ethnically cleansed from other MENA countries.
