Why hasn’t Israel gotten rid of Netanyahu?

My Zionist patience is running thin.
Strictmichael75 · 61-69, M
Maybe because he was elected and it’s a democratic country !
@Strictmichael75 Netanyahu wasn't elected the same way a US president is elected. People there vote for at-large representatives of the parties they support, and once the new Knesset is seated, the various parties work to form coalitions. The majority coalition chooses the Prime Minister. It would be as if the US only had a House of Representatives, no Senate and no Presidency, and the Speaker of the House was the head of government. Throw in a bunch of small parties to the point where neither the Democrats nor the Republicans had a majority and that's basically how Israel's government works.

At-large means you don't vote for a local representative like we do. Knesset members cover the entire country. It works there because it's a small country. I'm not sure it would work in the US. It would be like you live in California but you vote for Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert, Paul Gosar, and Matt Gaetz, while I live in Georgia and vote for AOC, Nancy Pelosi, and Hakeem Jeffries.
There's no mechanism for that. His coalition holds its majority with 4 seats, so at least that many Knesset members would have to defect to allow for new elections, and everyone knows that it's unlikely Netanyahu or Likud would remain in power if that happens. The next Israeli elections are scheduled for October 2026.
Netanyahu is a politician intent on maintaining his political stranglehold on the country and avoiding criminal charges for tax evasion/corruption.

Hey! Wait a second...what country are we talking about?
Most Israelis are Zionists. Why would they?
@LeopoldBloom The majority want Netanyahu out, but not because they're against the genocide. They don't like Netanyahu for other reasons.

@BohemianBabe Cool, you found one guy.

70% of Gazans support Hamas and their stated genocidal agenda. Unfortunately for you, they're not very effective.
@LeopoldBloom The "Two Nice Jewish Boys" podcast is the biggest english-language podcast in Israel. This would be like Joe Rogan doing a segment on how great genocide and rape are, and not losing any support because most of his listeners agree. It would be an indication of those views being super common among Americans.

So no, this isn't just two Israelis saying extreme things. This is a representation of common thought among Israelis.
Seems like there are alot of psychos over there who are intent on blowing each other up. Population control at its best.
they are proud of him
@mysteryespresso No, they're not. Netanyahu has lost any trust the people had in his ability to end the war and bring the hostages home.

I’m curious to know why as a Zionist, you don’t want him as a leader
Nunki · 31-35, F
Any particular reason? @Bumbles
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@Nunki The recent attacks seem utterly useless in Gaza and his refusal to protect Palestinians in the West Bank.
Nunki · 31-35, F
Fair enough. Honestly, I consider him a monster @Bumbles
