I hear the government in Dublin are setting up yet another enquiry into abuse of children by a religious order.

I can't help wondering how many prosecutions have resulted in previous such enquiries, how much compensation has been forthcoming. The legal profession has doubtlessly benefited. Anyone else?

It's a problem here for decades, a lot of old men have gone to prison, one of the current schools being investigated is a fee paying school, very expensive too, imagine paying a lot of money to send your kids to a "good" school only for them to be sexually assaulted, beaten etc

@SW-User Was in the north too, I can assure you. "A Protestant Government for a Protestant People" found it convenient to turn a blind eye. To their own as well. I didn't know people had actually gone to jail. Was that widely reported? Might have heard something about the Artane Boys' Band. Hopefully parents are more enlightened these days, less intimidated by priests and bishops. My wife told me her parents once got a visit from the parish priest because she and her sister had been seen wearing trousers. Not a million miles from extremist Islamic practices.

@alan20 I'll try and get a link for you.

I remember when I was a child we moved to a new house, a new build, it was around 1982, the parish priest called to every single house in the estate to "bless the house", he kinda forced his way in and there was no saying no to this, he then outs his hands out for money, I think each house gave him a minimum of £10, and he had tea, sandwiches and biscuits etc. If course we never heard from him again. We actually went to another local church

@SW-User Thank you very much for your work. I'm glad to hear some of them met justice. Do you know of any of them paying compensation or are all these orders penniless, nuns as well. At my school a boy was actually hurled through the window by a Brother. The Principal expressed concern but he remained in place as our Irish language teacher. My mother was from Tuam. I'm sure I don't need to say anything further.

@alan20 I am not aware of financial compensation, though I believe victims probably will sue the state in that regard
