People seem to have had a greater sense of Patriotism back then. Everyone pulling together for a very important common cause. The people knew they were facing world domination by the opposition forces in WWII. They were willing to help any way they could for the greater good of the American people.
I think that feeling has wanned over the last forty years when all American wars now seem to be driven by politicians, economics and the lust for oil!

@Nitedoc I also believe that this is due to a deliberate and concerted erosion of our values, through mockery, and derision. Everyone is AFRAID to be different. AFRAID to stand up for those values. AFRAID to support the President and the war he initiated to protect us from nuclear lunatics.
