The us is pretty fvcked in terms of controlling the strait of Hormuz.

Escalating the war there isn't going to convince commercial tankers its safe to go through, and it would be prohibitively expensive to escort every ship. The only way it'll work in the near term is if the Iranian Revolutionary Guard agrees to stop attacking ships there, and right now they are demanding enormous concessions that will essentially guarantee their survival for decades.

Trump is now talking about seizing Kharg Island, about twenty miles off the Iranian coast, and right up in the NE corner of the Persian Gulf...

Has he looked at a map of the region?

An armed landing having first sailed through the Strait of Hormuz and along about a hundred miles of enemy coast, without heavy American casualties and serious damage to the oil terminal?

Then what? Iran can simply close the pipeline valves on the mainland, isolating the island.

She'd still have the problem of exporting her oil; hence serious problems to many countries not otherwise involved and not wanting to be involved.

I don't know if Iran has similar facilities in the South of the country, perhaps even outside of the Strait of Hormuz, so although more accessible to an invader, on the mainland so easier to defend.

Iran's regime is thoroughly nasty and dangerous but this illegal, unplanned attack by Israel and the USA, the latter's reasons and strategy unclear and inconsistent, will achieve far more harm than good.
