The execution in Iran, why is it a surprise?

Islam, and the various temporal interpretations we see in the states, are at the same stage of development as Christendom was at the time of the Reformation and Counter-Reformation, and reflects how the faith is transitioning from authoritarian to more liberal in it's approach.

Iran wasn't always like that. Nor was Afghanistan. Western meddling put dictators and Islamists in power through greed.

As to the Reformation, it doesn't apply to Orthodox Christians or Catholics. Protestantism in some cases brought progress, but in others regression. Most Fundamentalist Christians are Protestants.
