I Love Hong Kong

[media=https://youtube.com/watch?v=ILAUODx3EYM]

The face of youthful idealism.

She talks about social movement. In any real democracy, there must be a feeling of being alive, of grounds-up initiatives. How to achieve that without creating disorder and chaos is the work of the government who must work harder at engagement. Governments in East Asian societies can no longer bulldoze its way and stifle discontent.

What is youth without idealism and patriotism? I wish there were more young people like her who would care more about their country.

After the umbrella protest, I felt forlorn, I felt that there s nothing i could do, for years. "The feeling of being alive" has left me. I am impressed by their perseverance, the spirit of not giving up, whether they are right or wrong in their actions or comprehension of the situation.

@Sssslm you are right. Young people could be misguided or impulsive. But I prefer that to having no emotion or being indifferent or just caring about their selfish needs. That's what I like about HK- civic and social groups are strong there. And the govt cannot ignore them.

At least here in the western country where I live in, the message kids get (and not only then) is that patriotism is not a good thing since it can easily lead to aggressive nationalism, and besides it is old-fashioned since we live now in a global world blah blah.

Nevertheless I see young people reacting against the messages they receive, especially boys.

@Cierzo precisely because we live in a global world that's why the love for one's country becomes even more significant.

Here, sometimes I see the need for harmony and orderliness a kind of slavery. Of course it is good for businesses to have a secure place to do business. Everything is about economics.

But being compliant and silent on important issues has the effect of numbing the mind. And it is not healthy for the spirit of a place.

@novembermoon I cannot agree more with the first paragraph. But sadly many people are persuaded that countries are just remnants from a past time.
