Women were expected to be obedient to their husband.The comfort and quality of life for sixteenth century women would have depended on the men in their lives. If they were decent men then obedience shouldn't have been a problem but they had little way of escape if in an unhappy marriage. The fashion was a bit unpleasant too. Id especially want to give the lead based makeup which ultimately ate into your face and poisoned you a miss!
