Visiting England to help friends move
One of my best friends at school, Sofie, married an Englishman, Michael, and they have lived for two years or so together in Michael's small flat in Oxford. Both have been saving a good deal, and they have been able to buy a three bedroomed house in a village just outside Bicester, which serves them well, because she works in Bicester and he works in Aylesbury.
I came over to help them with the move, with Michael's brother Steven, sister Madeleine, and parents Paul and Sarah. They have collected a lot of stuff together, and they have lots of new stuff they bought ahead of the move which is stored in Michael's spare bedroom (where a friend, William, used to live). That is the dynamic of the week I am spending helping.
The move happens tomorrow, and once they have everything in the new house, I am hoping not to have to sleep on an air mattress ahead of my return to Oslo at the weekend. They have been very gracious in both feeding, watering and entertaining me, although a lot of time has been spend last night boxing up the things they had left off, ahead of the move so they had things for continued usage.
We have all been eating lots of take away meals (not my favourite things), and sitting on the floor to eat, like a bunch of hippies. There have been some serious laughs, and I have been able to get to know Michael and his family much better, than I did when I stood as one of Sofie's bridesmaids at their wedding. I have enjoyed everything so far, and the return home to Oslo will be both sad and welcome!
