No miles given, but notice what's missing from the top of the post?
I've a friend in Somerset who had the idea of a comic novel whose characters were all named after villages in that county, a rich fund of names like those West Dorset ones, with their obscure, ancient etymologies. I don't think he ever wrote it though. The names are the easy bit: it's developing the plots and characters that's hard!

I've seen a photograph of a signpost from, I think, Norfolk, pointing to

and

.... to which some wag had added a board saying,

.
Oh the bit that's missing from this and a lot of other signposts, is of course the roundel bearing the junction's name and National Grid Reference.
