Canadian government?

Just wow what double talk.
Folks if you are unfamiliar of how the Northern ice hell of the Nunavut territory came to be populated just read about the origin of Grise Fiord and Resolute. Tell me those people didn't get shafted and lied to.

“Shafted and lied to” might be blunt, but the overall conclusions to what the circumstances were point to the same.
Unfortunately. 😔

They later on were able to build thriving Inuit communities. But yes, there was a controversy in that govt-relocation scheme.

@CookieCrumbs yes, I roam Google Earth now and then. And I got curious about why somebody would settle in such a god-awful place. So I accidentally came across the history out of curiosity. It's actually quite appalling to think they were moved and basically dropped off and just left there. And they separated their families in parts by doing so.
I say they were lied to because they were told it was only temporary.
@Gibbon
According to reports, they were not prepared to face a totally different, harsher weather conditions, diff vegetation than they were used to, etc.

Some articles even referred to that as making them “human flagpoles “, in connection to the need for presence in the Arctic.

@CookieCrumbs Yes it was a very harsh read for me.

So ,it appears the Canadians are not as holier - then - thou in their dealings as they'd like people to believe.....🤔

@DavidT8899 My thought exactly. I get tired of the US being told to look at its history when reading how appalling this involuntary relocation was

@Gibbon I know this is off the subject of the post ,but I've read that their government sold off the majority of their gold reserves.So as well as being hypocritical,they are also unwise financially .
