Is it completely crazy to offer someone I don’t know a place in my condo?

I met a woman at an event, who has similar circumstances and escaped her family and came to Canada.. those who know me, know what I mean by “similar circumstance”..

Atheist, escaped Palestine and came here Open minded and great personality .. but.. I don’t know her 🥔🤷🏽‍♀

I say similar because things worked out for me that I didn’t have to escape.. otherwise, I would have .. the difference between me and her is that I am a bit older and more financially stable..

There are unanswered questions like.. How could she afford studying here if she really escaped?! I have to admit, she may have told me this detail but I forgot ..

I was just talking to her after a bit of disconnect and she was saying she was looking for a place and a job.. and mentioned she would hope to find a job where i live .. i am not sure if she was hinting at anything or not..

I could definitely sense she is struggling but doing fine overall.. ?

But this is me.. I always rush to help.. yet life taught me to be careful and that people could take advantage.. letting someone I don’t know into my house is crazy! And so.. I refrained from making any premature offers as the older me would have.. I personally would not mind hosting someone in her situation for free.. it is not about the money, or about the sharing.. my only problem is with trust, I guess..

What if she’s a fellow potato too?

A temporary 2 month stay is what I would offer... until she finds a job and can pay rent then she can stay longer. If she turns out to be awesome, then you can extend it one month at a time

I think it's good and noble to want to help people. If you can, get your questions answered and see if you can find any second party who can refer her as a good person.

If you need get a signed agreement that would be legally meaningful if she screws you over.

@CountScrofula I might get in touch for advice if things get serious

@CountScrofula Excellent and essential advise.
It's nice to help people, but be sure to make good agreements and set boundaries. You probably don't want her to stay with you for years, start wearing your underwear, etc. Ok, maybe that last one is just a risk on SW, but I'm sure you know what I mean.

@NerdyPotato To be honest.. that underwear example was a good one to wake me up!
@TheLadyPotato you mean you own underwear?! Scandalous!

I suggest becoming familiar with city & provincial laws regarding squatter's rights. Make sure you can get rid of her if things are not to your liking.
