Tariffs dropped on Canadian Steel?

This is clearly A.I. and I can find no supporting news. But that doesnt make the facts wrong. They are indeed spot on.. However, if it proves true, then the US can look to be paying a premium for future orders as Canada has found other customers now. On the other hand, American manufacturers will need less steel as their own market shrinks..😷

I haven't heard a thing all day about tariffs being dropped on Canadian steel destined for the USA, but it wouldn't surprise me if it were a backroom deal in the making.

What I did hear yesterday was that Canadian sales of US-made automobiles are essentially non-existent, meaning Canadians are no longer buying American-made cars or light trucks, even if those vehicles are being assembled in Canada by Canadian auto workers.

That alone would reduce the steel being exported from Canada to the USA to a mere trickle of what it once was, but Asian markets have been quickly picking up the slack as Canadian rolled steel heads across the Pacific by the boatload.
@swirlie Who would by a Ford or Chevy when you can have a Mercedes, BMW,Toyota, Lexus or Mazda or a Hyundai or Nissan for less . Or a GWM or BYD for WAYYYYYYY less?😷

Manufacturers warranty on a new Chevy is 2 years/32,000 km

Hyundai is 6 years, 160,000 km
@swirlie Yep.. There again. Would you stick a 5 years warranty on a Chevy??😷

It would never happen!
@swirlie The cars just arent good enough to do it..Americans complain about cheap Chinese cars (before tariffs) and nearly half the parts in American cars are sourced from China and of inferior grade to those in the Chinese cars.😷

Right now, Canada is waiting for 49,000 Chinese cars to arrive and it's estimated that every one of them is already sold before they arrive here!
@swirlie Will they be the very best? Probably not. Just better than US built cars. I bought my Mitsubishi partly because I KNOW it was built in Japan..😷

We honestly know nothing about these Chinese cars that are coming! 🤣
@swirlie Like early Korean cars.. They will "OK". If it works the same as here, the makers will set up repair and warranty networks through car servicing chains locally..To save dealership workshops. But dont expect "Lexus " quality.😷

That's what I was wondering about... setting up networks through car servicing chains locally, because off-brand Dealerships have been making requests to sell those Chinese cars on their car lots here.

We're told the price will come in at around $35,000 CDN, which is a loss for the auto maker but the loss will be subsidized by the Chinese government just until they get their wedge in the door of the Canadian market.
@swirlie Those prices are similar to those quotes here. Bear in mind your $ and ours are fairly close. BYD have already announced dealer service and warranty work through "Mycar" a car and tyre service and repair operation attached to KMart here..😷

I hadn't heard of this kind of shared Dealer service before, but then realized that here in Ontario, Volvo and Range Rover have shared Dealership space using the same car lot with two showrooms, using one showroom for Volvo and the other for RR including service.
