Tariffs dropped on Canadian Steel?

I’m Canadian with a local steel mill. The US tarriffs didn’t do us any favours thats for sure. Rumour has it that we are paying the tarriffs for some of the US orders so we don’t lose the contracts of the big automakers. (And our gov’t is subsidizing the steel mill in return).

I haven't heard a thing all day about tariffs being dropped on Canadian steel destined for the USA, but it wouldn't surprise me if it were a backroom deal in the making.

What I did hear yesterday was that Canadian sales of US-made automobiles are essentially non-existent, meaning Canadians are no longer buying American-made cars or light trucks, even if those vehicles are being assembled in Canada by Canadian auto workers.

That alone would reduce the steel being exported from Canada to the USA to a mere trickle of what it once was, but Asian markets have been quickly picking up the slack as Canadian rolled steel heads across the Pacific by the boatload.
