Joys of being a home owner - local council rates

Just got the latest rates and charges notice. In one financial year, the local council rates have gone up 15 percent on last year. This is in a suburban residential location near Newcastle in Australia. Given that economic inflation is only around 3 to 4 percent, that's a huge hike. My basic income hasn't gone up 15 percent in one year.

But with cost increases like that you can see why employer groups are pushing for wage increases. My work's 'enterprise agreement' negotiations are starting soon. The current 4 yr agreement on workers pay and conditions expires in October.
