Australian fuel price watch - what's the diesel price today where you are in Oz?

Yesterday it went up to A$3.16 per litre at Ampol EG Islington (in Newcastle NSW). Before Trump started lobbing bombs into Iran the pump price was A$1.90 per litre (less than a month ago).

Today I get paid so tomorrow I can fill up the diesel vehicle. It will need about 120 litres, then it's good for another month. 120 litres at lets say A$3.20 per litre is almost a $400 purchase.

The prices won't stop going up until it forces people to stop buying so demand goes back down to meet supply. Until then, farmers and independent truck drivers can't get any fuel, so food supply will start slowing down and then it will really hurt consumers when shops run low or run out completely of fresh fruit/veg, bread, meat, milk and other things generally everyone needs.

What should the 'proper' price then be? $5 per litre is highly likely soon. $10 per litre?

I don't know what my employer (a national rail freight company) pays per litre of diesel to run all the locomotives needed to move freight trains, but I might try to find out.

We are paying about 4x the US price for our fuel too.

Who's "we"?

Yes, I know Zonavar68 is from Australia, but when you said "We are paying about 4x the US price for our fuel too", you inferred that you were not speaking as someone from Australia because you used the word "too", as if you were stating in addition to ..or on parallel with Australia, which is why I asked "Who's we?".

Do Australians have a fuel price watch app?
zonavar68 · 56-60, M
@justanothername There are a handful of them, but I created this so that anyone interested can directly comment on the diesel price at their local outlets if they choose. It's not for finding cheapest fuel.

The Philippines this morning declared a state of emergency due to low fuel reserves among their islands. Japan has stated that they now have about a 30 day oil reserve left in the tanks before the taps go dry.

If Russia isn't supplying China, expect the Chinese Navy to show up in the Persian Gulf to kick America's asssss out of the region, which could get ugly.

Today March 25th, I bought petrol for my car (87... the cheap stuff) and paid CAD$1.58 per litre in Toronto.

@swirlie The irony - I'm in the 'other' Toronto (Australia) and here the 'cheap stuff' is either 91 RON unleaded or E10 (10 pct ethanol) fuel currently both priced at about A$2.60 per litre at the local Ampol (formerly Caltex) outlet. Diesel at the same outlet is A$3.21 per litre today.

@zonavar68
In Canada, 87 RON unleaded contains 15% ethanol, 91 contains 10%, 93 contains 5% and 94 is 100% pure octane with no alcohol additive.

The difference in price between 87 RON and 91 is a 20 cent increase.

The difference in price between 91 RON and 93 is a further 10 cent increase.

The difference in price between 93 RON and 94 is a further 20 cent increase.

The difference in price between 87 RON and 94 RON is therefore 50 cents per litre, making 94 RON about CAD$2.08 at the pump.

Diesel is sitting firm at CAD$2.22 per litre.
