A retail buying limit of $40 per day of diesel or petrol is being proposed...

That will get me 14 L of diesel or 15 L of petrol at the current pricing.

That will get me 2 round trips to/from work of 60 km each before needing to buy more.

If anyone needs to drive more than 100 km a day everyday, they will be unable to do so.

I've been predicting this in reference to all Australian residences since the war in Iran began. It's called good old fashioned gas rationing.

The oil that comes from the Middle East goes directly as crude oil to China and Japan. From there it is refined into gasoline and diesel fuel, then loaded back onto a tanker and sent as finished product to Australia and New Zealand.

When crude oil can't make it to Japan, gasoline and diesel won't be arriving in Australia either.

@swirlie Last time it's ever happened here was in the 1970's. Odds and evens, limits on buying either in dollar or litre terms, etc.

In 1979 I was 11. Funny how well I remember the rationale of the rationing but block/vanquish almost all other memories of early childhood.
