Australia's u16's social media ban law comes into effect today

The Australian government has now legislated to remove parents from the role of being parents in their child's online space from today (December 10th 2025).

The Australian government (via directives from our 'imported E-Karen' Julie Inman-Grant) is also attempting to make social media companies ban/block/delete/sanction *parents accounts* if parents allow their children to access social media via their accounts!

In addition, she is framing the basis for the ban in broader terms around the protection of women (exclusively) from online-perpetrated domestic violence, bullying and abuse while using very gender-specific language in all her public statements that totally ignores the fact that approximately 1/3 of DV, etc. is perpetrated *by* women and targeted *at* men.

I don’t care about bullying or predators , they are trying to stop an addiction. Like banning smokes to under 18. Good for them.

@AthrillatheHunt Nothing is done to stop children accessing tobacco products or illegal vapes, and the government is now taking over the role of 'online parents' for our children. The gist of it I accept, but the implementation I do not.

@zonavar68 my government , through social welfare programs , is ALREADY the parent to millions of children. I don’t see any difference.

And if the social media companies had been proactive and moderated bullying and child grooming on their platforms none of this would have happened. This is the "Guns dont kill people. People kill people." argument all over again. And we pretty much stopped the guns. 😷
