Do you think people driving motor vehicles over the age of 60 should be forced to display a special badge, label or other distinctive marking

Do you think people driving motor vehicles over the age of 60 should be forced to display a special badge, label or other distinctive marking similar to Japan's 'shoshinsha badge' on their vehicle? If this is linked to a person's license not their vehicle rego the badge, label or other marking would need to be easily swapped around.

Imagine this with work vehicles... A person who's 60 or older has to put the identifier on the vehicle or when pulled up by a cop for any reason gets charged with an offence...

There are social media stories saying this is a federal government initiative, but then again there are stories pushing the idea that people will be either taxed on spare bedrooms or maybe forced to rent them out but that's not something actually proposed by the government (it comes from a 'thinktank' org).

So what would you think if oldies had to show something on any vehicle they drive to make other drivers aware that a person driving another vehicle is aged 60 or older?
In no state of Australia do fully licensed drivers ever have to currently get re-tested at license renewal time... If we did, imagine how many would fail. 😎

If it was made a requirement to re-test every time a drivers license is renewed, just like it's a requirement here to roadworthy-inspect every vehicle 5 yrs or older before rego can be renewed, I reckon a large portion of drivers license holders (inc me probably) would fail and have to re-test in order to pass.

I didn't get my drivers license until I was 27 (never needed one and didn't own a car before then), but I've never had to do any sort of driving test or road knowledge rules test since. I'm 56 now so nearly 30 years I've had a license to drive a class-C (light vehicle under 45 tonnes gvm) motor vehicle.
That measure doesn't correlate well enough with what other drivers need to know. Instead, displaying an indicator of how many points they have on their license would communicate the important info.

BTW, it appears 60-69 are among the SAFEST drivers on the road. So that 60+ indicator is truly misguided.

You do have a point. But, as I told my kids when they learned to drive and got their licences. "It isnt about how well you can drive yourself..It is more about how poorly the worst driver on the road with you can drive and what distance you are away from them." They took that to heart and are still with us..😷

Im 56 and completely aware of my surroundings when I drive . There is no difference between me and a 30 year old except i have more experience. Maybe 70 is a good age to start reevaluating drivers

No. But in Canada, i think they need to take a road test.

Hell yeah!!
A big red square smacked on the center of the doors.
So when its me driving down the road others would know to get the hell out of the way!
No, I think Americans should be forced to have safe public transportation.

In Ontario Canada, drivers must undergo a road test, a written text, a group eduction session, a vision test and a review of their past driving record when they turn 80 years of age, then again every 2 years thereafter.

Prior to the age of 80 however, licenses are renewed online every 5 years without any of the above.

Of interest however, insurance companies do not insure drivers in Ontario beyond the age of 99. When someone turns 100 years old, their driving days are over and their license permanently expires!

Should depend on your record.
