We are very willing to share the UK political corruption and incompetence. We probably exported it to both the US and Australia.

@helensusanswift Fair point.. But the British model is more intelligent and genuinely Humourous, (which explains why no one ever tried to migrate "Yes Minister" to America, like "The Office"😷

@whowasthatmaskedman Not sure about intelligent. They're like a sixth year debating society!

@helensusanswift I seriously see what you are saying and I concur with your estimate.. We had Scummo the clownpreviously and he believe he was the Chosen One. (seriously) But everything is relative. Look at the crap in the US Congress and Senate and be glad your people made it as far sixth year. (I know I am))😷

@helensusanswift It was shipped over from England very early. The troops - the NSW Corps - took control of the rum trade completely and became wealthy. When years later the Governor, William Bligh, tried to stop them they - probably relying on Bounty infamy - rebelled and arrested him. It was called the rum rebellion. The spirit of the corrupt NSW Corps lives on in forcing politicians out of office, corrupt practices...

@Abstraction I am glad it was only from England and the Irish, Welsh and Scots were halo-bearing innocents! :-)
I have heard of the Rum Rebellion and the malpractice in early colonial days. It seems that corruption and politics go hand in hand in most countries now.

@helensusanswift It was common practice among the Military officers and civil service that a person under some legal cloud or minor scandal could be offered a posting to a far away colony as a way of avoiding charges and a trial. So on average the people running the colonies were more likely to be dodgy even before they got there. It wasnt long before they were running the stills, the gambling and the brothels.😷

@whowasthatmaskedman That makes perfect sense. Some of the regiments in the UK had two sets of officers; one lot posed in London, swanned around Hyde Park and looked pretty. The less well off travelled with the men and did the actual fighting. I can see how the younger sons and so on would continue the skills they learned at public schools - bullying, lying, cheating, sodomy, rape and the like - when they moved far afield. Sounds a bit like the present Tory party, really.

@helensusanswift Exactly so.. Aristocracy was the worst. The eldest son was the heir, the second joined the military and the third, the Church..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman That seems about right. In Scotland the church option was less open, as the Church of Scotland was less establishment minded, so a plethora of wild young aristos infested the army/navy and various colonies.
