@DeWayfarer We have a strong social support system (unemployment benefits, disability support, etc) so you have to work hard to go without. However, the right wing government over the previous decade treated the battlers with contempt and squeezed them while pouring millions into the hands of the wealthy - so there you see the usual story of capitalism serving the few, not the country.
Gusman61-69, M
@DeWayfarer We do have 3.3 million people living below the poverty line. With 760,000 of them children.
As Abstraction mentions, The Liberal Party which was in power for the previous decade treated the poorer member of our society with contempt.

@Gusman ah? Liberal party? Capitalism? Seems contradictory. The conservatives here are all for capitalism is why I ask. Very much the opposite with liberals here.

Now Biden is a moderate on the scale even if he is a democrat and is all for capitalism. Bernie Sanders is a total liberal and raves against capitalism.

@DeWayfarer Liberal party have an ironic name in Australia. They are conservative party - Labor are to the left.
And ironically Sanders calls himself socialist - which he isn't really, he's like a normal social democrat - I think because the label was inevitable so he decided to pin the badge on for them.
DeWayfarer61-69, M
@Abstraction no not really was pinned on him. Bernie has definitely become far more to center than he once was. He once refused to take corporate donations decades ago. In fact he was apart of the "tree hugger" movement in the 60s.

Thank you for the misconception correction.
