You'd vote for Clive??? Good luck with that. ;)
What matters is that you put Labor (you spelt it wrong), ahead of the Libs with your preferences... :)
Gusman · 61-69, M
@walabby I spelt Labour how it should be spelt. The Labor Party has it wrong

@walabby I get the frustration involved in voting for Palmer. He and his Peeps spout half a dozen good sounding ideas (akin to "Build a wall") that might even work in isolation. But wont stand the sniff test. Returning a $trillion fro overseas invested super means reducing the returns to all those Aussie Super owners. It also meand making money to push the Aussie share market up (Something Palmer would love) but without actually improving returns. A 15% iron ore export tax sounds great. (Palmer is not a friend of the WA government) Until you think that maybe a 15% price hike to our customers in a time of economic slowdown might have them buying elsewhere. And of course a 3% ceiling on mortgage interest will have mortgage lenders running out of funds in monthes as they cant borrow at those rates.. But some people will buy it.
I agree with you about putting Labor ahead of the Lib/Nats. As mediocre as Labor is, the mission (should you choose to accept it) is to kick the current government out. And sort the mess out later.😷
walabby · M
@Gusman I agree with you, but the official spelling is "Labor". :( Apparently there was a Yank involved in the beginnings of the Labor party.. (Was it King O'Malley?)
walabby · M
@whowasthatmaskedman Yep. The 15% iron ore tax is right up there with Gillard's Mining Tax. That would have meant the multi-nationals transferring their profit overseas and not paying any tax at all, leaving the smaller local companies to pay that tax. Of course, recession hit about that time and the large profits evaporated.
I just hope that this time around, the Labor party is more competent that it has been the last time or two.

@walabby In the end, someone is going to end up stuck with the bill. The options are, the rich pay, the poor pay, or we all split the bill. Even then some bugger will argue they only had the Caesar Salad and Mineral water. No solution will make everyone happy. I just prefer a solution where no one goes hungry.😷

@walabby @Gusman @whowasthatmaskedman I know we should only be looking at the policies, but watching the 'debate' last night, I couldn't help thinking how much Scotty looked like Peter Griffin.
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@whowasthatmaskedman Palmer is only in politics to line his own nest. If he didn't think he could make money out of it, he wouldn't be involved. And have you looked at his party's website? It claims to be a continuation of the original United Australia Party.
walabby · M
@Bushranger .... and because he's bored and likes to stir the possum. He has more money than he needs
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@walabby I've seen a few interviews with Andrew Forrest. Seriously, if he were running, I'd probably vote for him. Seems to have better environmental credentials than the major parties. Of course, that could all be a cover.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Bushranger I never thought of that.. Suddenly I feel like springing to Peters defence somehow...😷
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@whowasthatmaskedman Yes, I got the image and tried to shake it because, deep down, I like Peter. Just felt wrong insulting him like that.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Bushranger That is the problem with Politics as she is played right now. The right has the money and the smart Right people are in business making Squillions. In my Opinion Malcolm Turnbull could have let the party out of the wilderness as a successful businessman. But he was too small "L" for the party and they turned on him. Equally, Kevin Rudd was the smartest man in the Labor Party. But couldnt get the support of those in power with his attitude. The last decent PM we had was arguably Paul Keating. Possible the most "Liberal" PM we had when it came to modernizing our economy..
I have to admit with the rules of the game now I wouldnt want to be in politics.. So I study the underlying economics, because thats whats going to happen, no matter who is in power.😷
