And USA is often called/nicknamed what?
That's right, America
It is clearly referring to a Country.
I don't think people refer to the continents as America... as they call them North America and South America, or maybe once in a blue moon you might here Americas
But when singler, America, it's quite clearly referring to USA.

@sstronaut America a conglomeration of two continents comprising 35 countries. Yes - the America's' but the USA is just one country in the mix. US people think their country is the world, or owns and runs the world, hence saying 'America' like the USA 'owns' the copyright to the singular word 'America'.
@zonavar68 Yeah but no one says America referring to the conglomerate...
Just like very few say Eurasia even though TECHNICALLY it's one continent in terms of land connections.
When people say America, people knows they're taking about the country and there is no issue with calling it America.
As for you projecting your issues with the people, that has zero effect on the words.
Just go ahead and type in America Map to Google and see what you get.
Now see this one, it has an "s" at the end...
America is USA
Americas, is not just the USA
North America is not just the USA
USA is not in South America
And not a continent but part of a continent, USA also is not in Central America
But not extra "s" or describer word, and it's just America, then yeah, that's going to be understood as USA.
And you being butt hurt about it, isn't going to change anything about it.
Like me being butt hurt by calling Europe it's own "continent" when it's technically not, but Eurasia is... isn't going to change anything.

Thanks for clearing that up, I got a little worried when our elderly neighbour said he has underpants older than America 🤣
