@sarabee1995 has posted many times that the US Military take an oath of allegiance to the constitution not to the US government of the day - and, more importantly, that they have a duty to not obey illegal orders. (I hope I've quoted you correctly, Sara?)

I don't recall seeing "thou shall not invade greenland" anywhere in the Constitution; maybe you can point it out for us... 🤔

@BlueGreenGrey
@wildbill83 Now Bill... You know as well as I do that there are not specifics like that in there. That would be impossible.
@ArtieKat Well, the duty actually is to obey all LEGAL orders coming down from one's chain of command and the national command authority. Implicit in that is the obligation to reject all illegal orders. And yes, every officer is trained to recognize legal and illegal orders. It's not a simple subject.
the constitution always seems to mean whatever anyone wants it to mean
I've heard this said before. Then I ask the speaker if they have read the Constitution. Invariably the answer is no. It's really quite a simple and elegant document. And written in plain English. If more people read it, there would be less confusion over what it says. @wildbill83 Now Bill... You know as well as I do that there are not specifics like that in there. That would be impossible.

@BlueGreenGrey Regardless of it's purpose, "... the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." If you have any doubt at all about whether that is an individual or communal right, I refer you to the Federalist Papers. As a free person, you have an inalienable right to self defense.
I hate that everyone brings up the overturning of Roe as some big example of SCOTUS overstepping. I begrudgingly agree with the decision. And I'm in good company because even RBG herself stated multiple times that Roe was badly decided and needed legislative shoring up. It was a bad decision when it was first made and it was a bad decision when it was overturned. 🤷♀
