Has unity become a foul word?

@Soossie's post got me to thinking about our country and wondering if, at this juncture, we the people could find the pathway to a unified country.

Granted, we’ve never, except for rare moments, truly been unified, or even a gracious (to one another) nation; but is it impossible for the majority of us to sit and “break bread” and become unified in a way forward?

What are your thoughts both for and against the idea?

I'm open to thoughts and ideas from others than those who live in the U.S.

We can't have ANY discourse if one side rejects any provable fact and any education, background, training, experience, expertise, thinking, intelligence.

If we can't agree on this:

You are welcome to your views, but NOT your own facts.

then there is nothing to be done.

@SomeMichGuy Fair enough... this is for sure one of the core issues.

@SomeMichGuy
We can't have ANY discourse if one side ....
Can't have meaningful discourse between people who think in terms of 'sides.'
@ffony Sorry, this issue has an extremely high correlation with political identification, and that's the primary basis for the question of unity.

@SomeMichGuy "Sorry" back at you; my thoughts about unity are a bit more thoughtful than discussions about 'political identification' - whatever that is.

The exclusive correlation you hold in your mind is an abstract concept; strictly a function of that mind. It has no existence in reality and all other minds are free to ignore it.
@ffony You give any of the dimensions of the unity which we are woefully lacking, and nearly all correlate to positions taken up by the current self-identifying Republicans, v. "Liberal" groups.

@SomeMichGuy You apparently are unable to have thoughts outside of the US partisan politics with which you are obsessed. Too bad; I'm sorry.
