What the hey…

40 school shootings so far this year. Republicans do not care about children. I am not a democrat.
Republicans rather let children die than give up those bribes from the NRA.
Prison1203 · 61-69, M
@BohemianBabe no, there’s a YUUUIGGGGEEEE difference between the two
@Prison1203 Not really. The NRA gives Republicans tons of cash in return for favors. You can call that donations, funds, bribes, whatever.
Prison1203 · 61-69, M
@BohemianBabe you can call it what it is, a fucking donation, PERIOD

So Democrats don’t believe in gun ownership? That’s not entirely true. Republicans and Independents own guns (or have one in the household) at a rate of about 2:1 over Democrats, so that part is true.

But, gun ownership has a great deal to do with demographics. Rural gun ownership is is 46%. Suburban ownership 28% and urban a mere 19%. In the Northeast, where I live, gun ownership is the lowest in the country at 16%, which is less than half of the rest of the country.

Most gun owners grew up with guns in the household where the overwhelming usage was for hunting or target shooting. Although I’m neither an owner nor an advocate, politicizing ownership does nothing.

Case in point, over 90% of ALL Americans believe in stricter regulation(s) to get a gun. So with that fact, and Democratic House and Senate control, why has there been no progress?

Simple. It pays more to pander. Accomplishing anything isn’t the objective.

@FlowersNButterflies what point were you highlighting?
@Adogslife All of them.
@Adogslife Well done.
Thoughts and prayers.

There's only so far you can push the idea that things like arming teachers and letting all students carry guns will help with school shootings, and even the alternative, expanded counselling and/or interfering with parenting doesn't work well for Republican politicians.

None of this is really new, but the I think the cruelty and civil war, us vs them, need for revenge thing against those who didn't vote for Trump thing has made things seem worse than usual.

I'm not saying it's a R or D problem. It's a mental health problem for one. However, I also know that the data on all this is wrong as it is could of been for example a shooting that just happened on the property which in turn labels it a school shooting which really it isn't. For example, one was an adult shot on the property of a school. How can that make it a school shooting? Just because it happened on property doesn't mean it was a school shooting.
@js3686 Even if this was all about mental health, it's still an R problem, since the Republicans are against making healthcare more affordable.

As an Englishman and an Americanophile, I do see the obsession with guns is a nationwide issue for the USA. Over here, no private citizen should own an assault rifle or a handgun without a special licence-that leaves most weapons in the hands of criminals! Those in rural areas may own a hunting rifle or shotgun, but the security checks are thorough and quite onerous, including a police visit to your home to ensure that the weapon is safely secured when not in use. We still have shootings but nothing compared to the USA.
I do not understand why anyone in a civilised country would want/need an assault rifle.
On the second point regarding those with a mental impediment, doesn't the Constitution say that you cannot incarcerate a person who has free will and is not a felon?

School shootings happen no matter who is in office,it is a society problem,our society has gone to shit,all you have to do is read the daily news and see what people are doing to each other everywhere in the U.S. :(
Prison1203 · 61-69, M
Democrats put the gun free zones in place, how many school shootings were there while Trump was in office? And wtf does the shootings have to do with republicans? We want armed school guards in place, like retired military or off duty police, democrats are opposed to that, now who doesn’t care?
You are just way out of touch. @Prison1203
Prison1203 · 61-69, M
@FlowersNButterflies why? Because I don’t agree with you? Or because you don’t believe in facts?
Because your ability to converse on a level which is good and sound and healthy is not present, and life is too short. @Prison1203

Are you saying are not a Democrat or a Republican?

Are there many people in the US who are like you in that respect?

Do you simply decide on issues when you choose to vote?
@Zeusdelight FYI, we have the Green Party, various Communist parties, etc.; here in my state (Michigan), there are still anti-tax parties hanging on with a candidate here or there.

We also vote for the boards of the three major public universities (Univ. of Michigan's Board of Regents, Mich. State University's Board of Trustees, Wayne State University's Board of Governors) and a State Board of Education. Putting a third party candidate in these offices, or more local--county, township/city--if they agree with one's issues, can make sense. [Except for Libertarians on the education-related boards. Libertarians running for those positions are now against public education, so they are anti-democratic in a disturbing way.]
@Zeusdelight He said it best.

It isn't fair to say that we don't care. We are just as upset as democrats.

Responsible gun owners aren't responsible. These are mentally ill people. They would find guns no matter what. Drugs are illegal but we still have an addiction problem
It is well -established that it is the Republicans who are big on guns. Here in Arkansas, a very red State, we are third in the nation for gun and weapon ownership. What follows? #1 for adverse childhood experiences, top five for domestic violence and violence in general, also incarceration. Your denial and misinformation on my post leads me to say you are clueless and in your condition, your censure is abusive. Republicans make assertions with shallow and wrong assumptions routinely. I am not a Democrat. https://www.statista.com/statistics/249775/percentage-of-population-in-the-us-owning-a-gun-by-party-affiliation/
@missyann
Sadly, correct.
They also don't care about the lives of other Americans (see pandemic).

So life is only sacred if they are making OTHERS carry it, not once the "unborn babies" transition to REAL babies, or grow up to be adults, etc.

They want extreme personal rights, but no social contract.
