I don't care what the founding fathers intended. Know why?

1. They never intended for black people, women, indigenous people, or even white men who didn't own property, to be allowed to vote.

2. They intended for slavery to continue to be an institution.

3. They could not conceive of semi-automatic rifles that could shoot a hundred rounds in a minute.

4. They had never heard of a computer, let alone one so complex and intelligent that it could count the votes of 200 million people in a matter of days.

So yeah. Basically screw the founding fathers. Let's do what works.

And it would be another 100 or so years before Étienne lenoir fires his his first internal combustion engine. Yet some still think “originalism” is a thing.

Fuck em. We can have some new ideas. They didn't perfect politics in the late 18th century
Agreed. Some people don’t understand why I never wax lyrical about the Founding Fathers. They’d disapprove of the attempts to make this country into a theocracy, but not before they wondered why people like me are free and expressing opinions about it.
