It's a miracle kids in the 1950s made it to adulthood

An ad from a 1952 comic book

I grew up in the UK in the 70's and on the odd occasions when I bought American comics I was always amazed at the small ads in the back advertising everything from sling-shots with metal ballbearings to bb guns to glasses requiring batteries so you could x-ray things and beyond !

Mind you, we were no better. But it was our parents responsibility to injur and maim us back then.
Teachers that smoked in class.
No seatbelts front or rear in cars.
Regular 'clip' round the ear from just about any adult in the vaccinity of any mischief we were caught doing.

@Picklebobble2 And don't leave out that our parents spanked us and made us behave too. We played outside all day during the summer too with no adult supervision.
@Picklebobble2 I was recently telling my niece the story about a drive home from Mass in our grandfather’s ancient Packard. No seatbelts, and no "bucket" seats. We were crammed in the back seat. My brother leaned against the door too hard and fell out. He jumped up and ran after the car. We pulled him back in and continued on our way. 😳
@bijouxbroussard So. Many. Great. Stories!!!

Truth! My cousin pinned a bath towel around his shoulders and climbed up on the roof of his house and jumped in attempt to fly like Superman. He ended up with a broken arm but not a fear of heights. He joined the 82nd Airborne Division and parachuted many times over Viet Nam.

10 days on approval . . they had confidence in the product!
@robingoodfellow "Eager to please" and can be "trained" ?
Right…
@bijouxbroussard i remember my brother telling me this is what they actually are and I was devasted. I thought they were really the little humanoids in the picture.
@robingoodfellow My sister thought so, too and she ordered them. 50 cents back then, but still…
I sent in seven box tops from Quisp and Quake cereal to obtain a small hat with a propeller on it - because I thought it might give me the ability to fly. I'm lucky it was fake and didn't work.
