Did you know smoke detectors work because of a tiny irradiated rock?

Called Americium-241. It emits Alpha particles in the air. Which ionizes them. When smoke interrupts the ionization, the sensor trips the alarm. Alpha radiation cannot penetrate skin so unless you crush up the rock and eat it it won't kill you. The thing that warns you about fire works because of nuclear decay.
