My mother left home when she was 14 and worked in a hotel then hospital before she married my father when she was 16. They remained happily married until death did them part. She never regretted her options or her choices.

@hippyjoe1955 my grandpa was kicked out of his home in Boston in 1932 at age 14 bc too many mouths to feed . Your mom sounds like a good woman .
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
@AthrillatheHunt She was a wonderful Mom. I kind of get a smile out of those who would delay adulthood for years. I worked on Dad's farm from the time I could walk. Gathering eggs as a young child. Herding cattle, feeding pigs, chickens, turkeys and ducks. Spending 8 hours a day driving the tractor when I was 10. Now people don't become adults until they are 35.

@hippyjoe1955 that’s how you develop a work ethic and a back bone.

Work 'em young. Marry 'em young. Create a self generating, low income work force.
I think Arkansas also did some things to child labor laws.
DeluxedEdition · 26-30, F
@Carla No. This is a terrible idea. Drug addict parents will exploit children. Children should enjoy their lives and not work. They have their ENTIRE life to do that.
Carla · 61-69, F
@DeluxedEdition not in florida.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@DeluxedEdition it’s abusive and a step back into the Industrial Revolution.

@haudevbe whomever you are, i find no humor in your repeating, verbatim, my comment.
Please don't do it again.
You can change a young child’s sex but have issues with this?
I’m not in favor of either.
exchrist · 31-35
Is that sarcasm?
Punches · 46-50, F
@exchrist From a republican supporter like athrilla, probably not.
FLA was one of the first states to worry about kids being exposed to LGBT, but they think it is okay if kids can work overnight shifts.
exchrist · 31-35
@Punches ah i get it now exposure to adult themes. Work overnight at 14 you r going to see adults at their worst. But a drag queen despite already having access to the internet and television. God forbid!
Thanks for the explaination.
Punches · 46-50, F
@exchrist Anybody can look up anything on the web, but it doesn't mean underage should be exposed to it in real life. NOR do they need to be working overnights. Most overnight jobs are factories, warehouse, gas stations, or sometimes construction. No kid needs to be involved with that. They need to be in school and focused on hopefully building a real future.

I think a lot of young people have delusions about how great it would be to start working and making money. The adults would tell us, "You have the rest of your life to work. Enjoy being young for now."
So, they will think it is great until reality sets in.
Wtf
...
sheesh
Make them chimney sweepers
HotPizza71 · 51-55, M
Where .at Disney!!?
Punches · 46-50, F
Florida? Where is that? Is it some place in South America? Africa? Maybe the middle east?

What country would make something like that legal?
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@Punches I’m not defending it. It’s abusive. But almost every country since our inception had kids working.
Punches · 46-50, F
@AthrillatheHunt I didn't even know anyone under 15 could be hired in any case.
I had a job washing dishes at 15, for spending money and save for my first car.
They were pretty strict about what hours I could work.

But yeah, it is abusive to even permit age 14 to be working the types of jobs that are overnight.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@Punches I was a dishwasher at 15 too. Preferred that to being a bus boy. That was for weekend brunches , not overnights.
