Is Florida about to see a mass migration wave from Haiti?

SW-User
It doesn't look like it. While Florida has seen some migration from Haiti over the years, sources don't indicate a mass migration event is currently happening or about to happen.

In fact, some sources claim that there has been a slowdown in Haitian migration to Florida. The U.S. Coast Guard reports that irregular immigration in the Caribbean remains low for now and that they haven't seen a spike in migrants trying to reach U.S. shores.

However, Florida's Republican Governor Ron DeSantis appears to be taking the potential threat of mass migration seriously. He has deployed extra officers and soldiers to the waters south of Florida, including:

Over 250 state law enforcement officers.
50 National Guard members.
Dozens of aircraft and boats.

DeSantis claims to have already stopped one boat carrying 25 Haitian migrants and says the state's efforts have led to the interdiction of 670 vessels carrying over 13,500 illegal aliens since January 2023.

In addition, some Republicans, including Reps. Matt Gaetz, Gus Biliarakis, Anna Paulina Luna, and Daniel Webster, have requested that President Biden allow the Navy to aid in the interdiction of Haitian migrants.
