California is Fine

“California is fine. LA is fine. If you don’t like California or LA, that is fine. If you hate California and don’t live in our state, don’t come. We will be fine. If you live in California and you hate it here, you can move. We will be fine. If we are cut off from the federal government, we will be fine. The hate obsession with this state is boring and old. Move along. We will be fine.”

Tough times happen, we deal with it. My post is not about any specific event.

@JonLosAngeles66 but it's timing is unfortunate as it shows the repeat of the nonsense when BLM was burning cities, destroying businesses and livelihood, damaging property on a huge scale, and the media and politicians told us the riots (or demonstrations, as they called them) were "mostly peaceful". Remember the journalist reporting as fires burned fiercely behind her and the message at the bottom of the screen told us the protests were "mostly peaceful." Same thing is happening here. The police chief is saying we were overwhelmed and describing the potentially lethal violence of the insurrectionists, and media and politicians resort to very possible device to distract us from the reality on the ground. Same here, much changing of the subject, what-aboutery, and law-enforcement-blaming while we are told we are not seeing what our own eyes tell us. And the governor and mayor threaten to to sue the Feds for coming to their rescue and doing what they manifestly failed to do.
@jenni100 we're fine.

@JonLosAngeles66 Glad you are safe
@jenni100 the news makes it look like the city's on fire because a few robot cars caught on fire. The real points are that we need immigrant labor here. The 1 million undocumented people here in Los Angeles are welcomed and an important part of the community. ICE is not welcome here. Bigotry and hate is not welcome.

@JonLosAngeles66 i'm not sure why those are the real points even if they are true. Immigration policy in our democratic republic is a matter for the elected federal government, not for local sentiment.
@jenni100 it needs to be addressed
jenni100 · 18-21, F
@JonLosAngeles66 yes sir, i agree whether you mean immigration policy or local sentiment. The Federal government got involved in education, justice, and the economy in the post-Civil War South because local sentiment had shown itself incapable of addressing the issues.

Allowing illegal immigrants to enter a country in defiance of the law, even when supported in some places by local sentiment, is not compatible with democracy. Most people by far oppose illegal and uncontrolled immigration. It's why we have federal elections and institutions.
@jenni100 but we can't suspend Habeas Corpus among other laws. Those are actual felonies as opposed to being undocumented which is not a felony.
jenni100 · 18-21, F
@JonLosAngeles66 huh? This seems like changing the subject. What has it to do with your point about the need to address local sentiment. The law of Habeas Corpus seems to argue against your point in that it doesn't depend on local sentiment. It may be necessary to address local sentiment as you say, but not on the question of the right of habeas corpus, surely - its application, limits, and extent.
@jenni100 I made my point in the post.
