California is Fine

“California is fine. LA is fine. If you don’t like California or LA, that is fine. If you hate California and don’t live in our state, don’t come. We will be fine. If you live in California and you hate it here, you can move. We will be fine. If we are cut off from the federal government, we will be fine. The hate obsession with this state is boring and old. Move along. We will be fine.”

Not what LA police chief says. "Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell admitted that his officers were “overwhelmed” by the scale of the riots, which have continued for four consecutive days in Los Angeles.

“We are overwhelmed,” McDonnell said at a Sunday evening press conference. “Tonight, we had individuals out there shooting commercial-grade fireworks at our officers. That can kill you.”

@JonLosAngeles66 Your perspective is so out of touch with the rest of the country, it's symptomatic of the problem for Dems that they have lost touch with their former working class base as the become the party of affluent elites and keep giving Trump one gift after another, insulting anyone who disagrees with them.

As Domenech says, "Democratic unwillingness to take on the sacred cows of their party in big blue cities and states across the country has become an obvious anchor on their hopes for political comeback. They are unwilling to take on their pro-Hamas faction, their trans men in girls’ sports faction and their pro-illegal migrant faction in any serious way. Newsom can pay lip service to these ideas – but that’s all it is."

In saying we should all pay such deference to what Californians and their politicians say, you seem blind the fact that for most of the country it gets things backwards. Perhaps you should pay attention to what others say.

"Until this changes – until someone prominent within the party is willing to set out on a different path – Democrats are going to continue to find their most extreme wing giving President Trump one chaotic gift after another, casting him as the champion of law, order, and normalcy. Whatever that approach is, it is not the path to political victory."

You don't have to be MAGA or an uncritical supporter of Trump to see that this is crazy and the inability to see that it is crazy is itself a big part of the problem.
@jenni100 You think what you want we're fine.

@JonLosAngeles66 thanks for the permission, sir. But when cities like LA declare themselves sanctuary cities and refuse full cooperation with federal law enforcement, I think it's reasonable for the government to refuse federal funding for such cities. Be fine on your own dime!
Tough times happen, we deal with it. My post is not about any specific event.
@jenni100 but we can't suspend Habeas Corpus among other laws. Those are actual felonies as opposed to being undocumented which is not a felony.

@JonLosAngeles66 huh? This seems like changing the subject. What has it to do with your point about the need to address local sentiment. The law of Habeas Corpus seems to argue against your point in that it doesn't depend on local sentiment. It may be necessary to address local sentiment as you say, but not on the question of the right of habeas corpus, surely - its application, limits, and extent.
@jenni100 I made my point in the post.

@JonLosAngeles66 i am highly concrrned jon.
In my sometimes uncouth way, i was attempting to point out the absurdity of federal involvement.
It's dangerous and unnecessary.
But we knew, didn't we, that trump would use any tiny excuse he needed to invoke military engagement against citizens.
Be prepared for a "delay" of the '26 elections.
@Carla it's how a totalitarian government starts.
