Chicago
@Tumbleweed We visited in 1982 for extended family gobbler day, my mother's oldest brother took us to the Sears tower, Lincoln Park Zoo, the museum of science and industry, and a fine dining Bohemian restaurant in Cicero, I had a most delicious roast duck that I will never forget.

@NativePortlander1970 I spent the day there by myself. We had a layover when I was traveling to California so it's sentimental to me
@Tumbleweed Amtrak?
Tumbleweed · F
@NativePortlander1970 Yes! It was awesome!!!
@Tumbleweed I LOVE Amtrak, I think You took the California Zephyr route, You should take the Chicago to Seattle Empire Builder route, it's my favorite, once You get into the western Montana Rockies the scenery is so gorgeous, things You will never see by road or plane :)

@NativePortlander1970 Amtrak is the way to go!! I love traveling by train! I met up with some people & we spent alot of time in the observation car
@Tumbleweed I spent more time in the observation car than my own seat during the day, leaving only to get meals in the dining car, the communal seating while eating is a great way to meet people, did your train have showers on the lower level in coach seating? I always took ome when the sun went down and couldn't see much more scenery anymore.

@NativePortlander1970 No, we were like a bunch of hippies when we got to where we were going! We had a bathroom where we could wash off but nothing even close to a whole bath!
@Tumbleweed The ones I took had a shower stall where you could take a quick ten minute luke warm shower, but they weren't really advertised as an amenity, nor on the layout map, only one car had them and You had to hunt them down. I think they were for staff only, even though there was not a sign saying that.

@NativePortlander1970 Hmmmm...
You would think with the ones going all the way across the country, a four day trip, they would let you have a shower

@Tumbleweed You would think so, the larger rommettes do have their own showers on the more modern sleepers, but those go upwards of close to $1,000. However, the shower, the ability to stretch out to sleep, total privacy, and meals included, is worth it if You can afford it.

@NativePortlander1970 Oh absolutely!
