Is the city or place you live oversturate with shopping mall?

The metropolitan where i stay Klang Valley in Malaysia is smaller than Greater Houston area of Texas but have more than 200 ( will increase next year ) shopping mall and yet every mall looks same and ocupy by mostly same limited selection of food and beverage brand and fashion retailor making them look monotonous and uninteresting. This lack of variety makes shopping malls feel redundant and uninspired, almost 90 percent of these mall is now becaming ghost mall with pathetic foot trafic even on weekend regarldless it is locate in most strategic location in city or equip with up to date well maintan facility and left alone those lack of this advantage is even become zombieland alike property, the lack of novelty and transition toward online shopping factor kill the mall business brutally somehow still developer willing to invest billions of dollars to keep build more and more shopping mall on the way to open next year with the same concept.Sometime i wonder those developer marketing team maybe stuck in bubble trend of 80s or nobody slap them in the face to woke up and realise the consumer habit and interest is already gone i mean long gone like decades ago please stop wasting resource and landside to build something stupid and unproductive.

Many of our older shopping malls have been redeveloped into housing or schools.

@SunshineGirl that is great repurpose idea, most of the obsolete mall here left empty with no tenant but still running centralize air-con whole day which wasting large amount of electricity.
