Coming from NYC I consider New Orleans , Montreal , and Amsterdam to be some of my fave small cities . They’re all very walkable .

The smallest places I went to that connected to me in some way was Uvalde and Galveston (not sure if Galveston counts but it's not big as the other major cities here). Wasn't so much the towns but my favorite gems they have.

I went to Galveston years ago to see someone. We were just dating, and not committed to much of anything. My time there was surreal though (Long story, not sure if anyone cares to hear it).

And Uvalde, I went to the state park that has the Frio River cutting right through it. I climbed their highest hill three times, which by no means was that easy. Sat up on the summit to think while I watched the birds fly below me. Seeing how things looked several hundreds of years ago untouched by development and having a complete 360 view was... definitely thought provoking, even spiritual.

All these places have less then 10,000 people living in them. I stayed at every place for week sometimes more then a week. Starting from 1986 though today and each one of these places have a cool piece of history about them. Go visit them if you can.
