The Believer's Defense Against Spiritual Wickedness

Scripture paints a clear picture: Demons are real, intelligent, and organized. They know our weak spots and how to push them, through various temptations.

They are called unclean spirits (Mark 1:27), evil spirits (Luke 7:21), and powers of darkness (Ephesians 6:12).

They are demonic messengers under the direction of their master, Satan, who is the “ruler of the kingdom of the air.” (Ephesians 2:2)

“Our struggle is not against flesh and blood,” Paul writes, “but against rulers, authorities, powers of this dark world, and spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” (Ephesians 2:2)

They are demonic, fallen angels. Scripture is careful not to overindulge our curiosity, but Matthew 25:41, mentions eternal fire prepared for "the devil and his angels," and Revelation 12:7-9, describes the dragon (Satan) and his angels being cast out of heaven. Other passages, like Jude 1:6, mention angels who abandoned their dwelling (heaven). However, the Bible’s focus isn’t on how demons are structured, but on how they’re defeated.

So what do these unseen beings want?

In one word: ruin.

Their goal mirrors their master's. They want your soul... you. To turn you against Christ and His saving grace. To steer you away from salvation:

The thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy.” (John 10:10)

They corrupt worship (1 Corinthians 10:20).

They deceive the nations (Revelation 16:14).

They whisper lies that bend truth, stir fear, and fracture faith (John 8:44).

They seek not just to torment the body but to twist the image of God within it (Mark 5:2-5).

And yet, even at their strongest, they are not above Christ.

When demons confronted the apostles, the demons trembled at the name of Christ.

Hell’s legions may be many, but their leash is short.

Jesus never taught His followers to study demons. But he did teach them how to resist them, as fascination and communication with spiritual darkness, dims the spiritual light of Christ in believers.

Demons may organize armies, but they fear one name above all others...Jesus. They tremble at even the mention of His name:

James 2:19 KJV - "You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe and know Jesus as the God of this universe—and tremble!"

When He rebuked the unclean spirit in Capernaum, it left instantly (Mark 1:25–26).

When His disciples cast out demons in the name of Jesus, even hell itself was shaken. (Luke 10:18)

The cross was the final blow. Every demonic ruler and unseen power was humiliated at Calvary.

“Having disarmed the powers and authorities, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.” (Colossians 2:15)

Demons still move. They still deceive. But their war is lost.

They are outlaws running on borrowed time, waiting for the sentence already written:

“Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.” (Matthew 25:41)

Paul doesn’t tell believers to fear demons. He tells us to stand firm against them. Here's how:

“Put on the full armor of God… so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” (Ephesians 6:11)

The full armor of God is: Truth. Righteousness. Faith. The Word of God.

We don’t fight darkness with rituals. We fight it with obedience. We fight it with Christ.

Though demonic spirits roam the world, hoping to influence people to turn against Christ, we are not hopeless. Believers have nothing to fear. Demons can not rule Jesus, they cannot take over His throne nor steal our salvation through Christ:

Jesus said, "I give them eternal life, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand." John 10:28 - 29

Jesus reigns supreme over every realm, both physical and spiritual. Every demonic spirit, every power of darkness, every demon that has ever uttered a word against God, will one day bow before Him.

At the name of Jesus, every knee shall bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth.” (Philippians 2:10)

You don’t need to name the darkness to defeat it. You just need to know the Light of the World...Jesus.

Believers are told to resist (turn away from whatever the temptation) and away from the devil's influence. Doing so, under and by the authority of Jesus Christ, the devil and his demon followers shall flee from you. That is a promise from God, in James 4:7.

Do not intentionally entertain thoughts of sin. That's where it all starts, with just a thought, so catch that thought and turn away from it, before it materializes into sin. Resist the devil and sin, and Satan shall flee from you, but you have to do it by the authority of Jesus Christ. Demons don't fear you, and won't obey you, but they will obey Christ, and that is why we cast out demons in the name of Jesus and by His authority. Only then, will they flee.

With just what I’ve seen in my family and the things they did and how they ended up I believe this 100%. It’s like they swung the front door open and invited them in. They call me “The Lucky One” when they start talking together and seem so resentful. I was praying to God for protection from the time I was 8 years old due to being in a chaotic dysfunctional home with a sadistic father
@cherokeepatti That would be very hard to deal with. I'm sure you pray for them all the time. I pray the Holy Spirit will speak to their hearts and they will come to know Christ one day. You're probably the only example for Christ they'll ever see. I'm sorry you have to deal with so many with that type spirit. I'm sure it's very hard. Hopefully, one day, they will think about how they have treated you and repent. Some don't think about eternity and where they will spend it, until they're ready to cross over. Then they're forced to take an account of where they might spend it. I hope they think about that real hard, as you and I know there's no second chances.

@LadyGrace They have a victim mentality and will blame others for causing things that they were themselves responsible for. Until they take responsibility for things like that they will never repent. Both of my sisters played like little church girls but they never internalized faith. They were using it to get out of chores and letting most of it dumped on me. I knew what they were doing but nobody cared. I used some of that time to pray while I was doing those choirs, not ritual prayers but just silent talks to God.
@cherokeepatti Yes, I'm sure they do. I agree a thousand percent. And I think it's going to take something very tragic to happen to them before they will unharden their hearts and also learn to take responsibility for their lives and sins and how they hurt you and others. They may never unharden their hearts, but we can pray that they will, and I pray the Holy Spirit will speak to their hearts every day. I know you've had a really rough life with how you grew up and with how the family treated you. Just awful. They will have to answer before the Lord about all those things, and how they treated you. You and I know they're only hope is in Christ. You were so sweet and kind and good to pray for them when they hurt you and God remembers that. I believe that unless they repent while they can, they will one day see you from afar, in the abyss they dwell in, just like the rich man saw Lazarus but it was too late. I am really sorry you have suffered so deeply and unjustly from these people. I sure pray they'll come to repentance but I do think it will take something drastic to shake them up before they do. Sometimes it does, when people's hearts are so hardened, but I know they're watching you, and you're the only Bible they might ever see.

@LadyGrace I haven’t talked to either in many years. They don’t respect boundaries and anytime they’ve come around they want something, either to stir up trouble or whatever they need at the time.So they aren’t watching me. I don’t even want them to know I have cancer. I will shop in another city after my hair has fallen out so much which will be soon. They would use me having cancer as a reason to try to come around me again and I sure don’t need that kind of stress again.
@cherokeepatti I see. But I do believe that they will remember your example. I believe God will use that. Yeah those type people don't respect boundaries. They just want to use people.

I'm keeping you in my prayers and I pray you overcome this cancer like you did before. I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this again. And your partner. I'm so sorry. I pray God will heal you both and you'll have a full recovery. ❤🙏

@LadyGrace His tumor has shrunk enough to get robotic surgery, which will be much easier than the other type of surgery. He got a C-T scan a couple weeks ago and needs to have an ultrasound due to having gallstones and possible bile duct blockage. Was supposed to have it last Thursday but the request sent to his insurance company got there a bit late so they reschedule for Thursday morning. I’ve been making beet-apple-carrot & ginger juice for him to drink every day and hoping that he’s had enough time to dissolve the gallstones. He’s not bloating up and complaining about it since he started drinking the juice and that’s a good sign.

My oncologist says I will need to be on chemo for the rest of my life (unless they find a genetic match for a medical study that may target the tumors and not my cells. So far no match but the doctor at the genetic centers told me that they have promising new studies coming in all the time.) And I’m thinking some other methods of cures will be released soon. Red light therapy targets only the tumors and not healthy tissue as does frequency waves.

In the meanwhile, I have finished the first 7 rounds of chemo. My oncologist has 7 more in line for me. Then they will do scans again. He said that I am tolerating this chemo so well (no nausea or diarrhea and my white cells pretty stable) that he might put me on chemo pills after the next 7 sessions is finished.

My hair is falling out a lot. Probably need to get it shaved off within a month or so. Oh well, it’s winter and I can wear a hat. Maybe the pills won’t be as harsh on my hair follicles and it will grow out by summer…we’ll wait and see about that. I bought a pretty straw hat for summer at the discount store last week (only $1) and I plan to wear it next summer even if I have hair.
@cherokeepatti I believe you'll beat this without all the continued chemo, Patti. That's what I'm praying for. God bless you and guide you. Much love to all.

@LadyGrace I don’t feel sick. And he hasn’t missed a day of work since his diagnosis either. I think one reason is that I had to go to a rheumatologist in April due to being badly inflamed with the arthritis. My primary care doctor sent me to one who was also an osteopath like him.He did some testing and said I also have osteoarthritis but my bones are in good shape. He gave me a lot of good tips about diet and cooking methods and other things to help. I started taking bromelain (the enzyme that is in pineapple) every day along with boswellia that I already took. Bought ceramic-lined cookware too. We’ve all been eating a huge amount of salads and other veggies, making a lot of soups etc. I drink matcha green tea, chamomile tea and others as well. Last time my chemo oncologist asked how I felt told him that if I didn’t feel like I had cancer due to my energy being good and not in pain. He smiled and his face lit up. Later in the conversation he revealed that his first wife had suffered from leukemia for 10 years before she passed away. So it seems like this doctor takes it to heart when a patient tells him they feel good. He was a cardiologist and then went back to school to become an oncologist after she died…..My tumors are shrinking slowly but that’s progress.
@cherokeepatti That is truly amazing.
@cherokeepatti I believe you could help others heal their cancer as well, if you would write a book for them. That type valuable knowledge just doesn't come easy or from anywhere. That takes true wisdom from the Lord. I don't think that's available out there and people don't know where to find it.
@cherokeepatti With my Dupuytren's contracture, I must take my iodine and iodide combination everyday or the tumors will come back in my hand and paralyze them to the center of my palm, for good. They said there's no cure but I have found that's the only thing after research that keeps my fingers from folding all the way into my palm. The combination of the two, dissolve the tumors. I'm wondering if either of you can use that for your tumors.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@LadyGrace Which type of iodine and what brand and what is the combination?
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@LadyGrace I am finding things from doctors and others such as naturopaths who have things that they advise patients about.
@cherokeepatti oh thank God for that. It's good we can learn from others.
@cherokeepatti I'm sorry, Patti. I didn't see that you asked me this until just now. The product is called "i...Thyroid IODINE" spelled just like that on the bottle with a little i. 12.5 mg over the counter from RLC Labs. It is a combination of iodine and iodide. 7.5 mg. Of iodide from potassium iodide, and 5 mg. of Iodine and 2.5 mg. from potassium Iodide.

How did you keep from getting sick to your stomach and keeping your hair, when getting the chemo? Do you think that would work for everyone? I know everybody's system is different but I'm wondering if it would help everyone.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@LadyGrace I lost my hair the first time, and it grew back thicker than before. But have lost a lot again this time, probably all of it by the end of the year at the rate it’s going. As far as not getting sick I have no idea. Ray and I both have tolerated chemo well. Maybe it’s because of the food we’re eating. A lot of veggies every day may be helping, I have no idea.
