When God said "whosoever" in John 3:16, He included YOU.
There are people from around the world, that God said, shall be saved.
If we love Him with all our heart and mind and soul, God said that is what is important. Religion or denomination has nothing to do with salvation. It is our belief about Christ and why He came, that counts....it is what is written in God's Word, that counts. Jesus didn't die for just a certain denomination. John 3:16 says he died for all.... the world. Not just some. And religion didn't die on the cross for our sins, Jesus did.
John 3:16 and 17, doesn't say that salvation depends on denomination or any religions of this world. It doesn't say that only Muslims, Jews, Lutheran, Catholic, Mormans, Baptists, Episcopal, Methodists, or any other belief system, are candidates for salvation, nor that they can save us, or are the only ones going to heaven.
It DOES say that "whosoever" comes to Jesus seeking to be saved, CAN be saved. That includes me and you. Always!
It DOES say, that Jesus died to save the world ---- not just SOME. That includes every single person on this earth, who seeks Jesus to save them. Look at the following verse, which tells us WHOM shall be in heaven.
Romans 10:13: "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Plain and simple. No interpretation needed. Jesus didn't leave us to guess nor speculate on that. If we want salvation and heaven as our home, any can have that, through Jesus.
You enter heaven by forgiveness and through the righteousness that Jesus gives you. You do not enter into heaven by living a good life. It's always true, that where faith is birthed, works will follow, NOT PRECEDE, but salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone:
Ephesians 2:8-9 - "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: NOT OF WORKS, lest any man should boast."
Where in the Bible does it say salvation is through Christ alone?
Romans 6:23 says, 'For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. ' 'Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved' (Acts 4:12).
Do you see any specific religion mentioned in John 3:16 OR those verses? No. That is because everyone is invited to share in God's Plan of Salvation...regardless of denomination. WHOSOEVER calls on the name of the Lord, shall be saved. Jesus said we have everything we need in order to be saved, in Him... and His grace covers everyone who wants it. God is not willing that any should perish, but have everlasting life! John 3:16
But don't miss the verses that follows, John 3:17 and 18! Those are super important:
John 3:17: "For God sent NOT his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the WORLD, THROUGH HIM, MIGHT BE SAVED. 18 He that believeth on HIM is not condemned: but he that believeth not, is condemned already.... think about that for a minute. Condemned by what?? Jesus? NO. Did we miss it? Because "he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." In other words...some have not believed in the only person that can save us from the consequences that SIN placed on us.... and that is Jesus.
All the religions of this world can do nothing to save us. But Jesus can, and He told us exactly how. If we ignore such a Salvation in Christ, God said in His Word, that we'll have no hope of heaven, and as we have seen, it won't be because He didn't want us there, but because God said that SIN keeps us condemned and separated from Him, UNTIL we ask our only Meditator between God and man, Jesus, to forgive us and invite Him into our hearts and lives, so He can do what He set out to do....save us from sin and give us an eternal home in heaven. 1 Timothy 2:5

Do you think the Apostles misunderstood Jesus? You can trace their footsteps and read what they preached and wrote. I am pretty sure what you just wrote contradicts them.
So did they get it wrong and people for thousands of years get it wrong?
