The Lord's Prayer phrase "lead us not into temptation" is a plea for God's guidance and protection, not a claim that God tempts us. It expresses the need to be led away from situations that could cause us to sin or to be tested beyond our ability to endure. The Bible clarifies that God does not tempt us to sin.

@LadyGrace Something I didn't realize until WELL into my adult years, was that "forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us", means that we will ONLY be forgiven for our own sins if we FIRST find the spiritual love and purity to forgive the sins of all the people who have hurt us.
@4meAndyou You are so wise and knowledgeable. Yes, it signifies a plea for divine forgiveness that is directly linked to our willingness to forgive others. In essence, it's a prayer asking God to forgive our sins (or "trespasses") in the same way, or to the same degree, that we forgive those who have wronged us. Excellent addition! Thank you for that reminder to us all. ❤

@LadyGrace I see soooo many people who just can't forgive their parents, or relatives, or spouses or ex-spouses, or the people from their own churches. I struggle with it at times, for sure.
Forgiveness is an extremely selfish thing to do, in fact...🤣🤣🤣 Those who struggle mightily to forgive others are doing so with an eye to the main chance!!! 🤣🤣🤣
