Why do children need to have 'advent calendars' at christmas time ?

They look like 'creeping christianity' to me as a mum of now adult kids.

Why 'creeping'? The name is an explicit description of the function. If you don't wish to participate in the ritual of advent, don't buy the merchandise 🤷‍♀️
