A very sad day begins a period of hope

Pope Francis first began talking about hope in the early years of his Papacy and he wrote a good deal of what many would call self-help books, one special one for a jubilee year that he declared early in the years. Indeed, the last book he published was his autobiography which was entitled Hope.

With his funeral the Conclave begins, to elect his successor whom the media is already talking and speculating about a black Pope. Whomever the conclave elect we must hope he is a wise man to lead the diverse population of Mother Church. A man who will honour Francis’ legacy but too he might continue the renewal of the Catholic tradition which has become stale rather than as dynamic as the Gospel is.
