I think I understand why Christians believe in Jesus Christ

Although they will deny it Christians have an incredible fear of death. And to relieve that fear of death they have to find some solace when their lives come to an end and they don't know what's going to happen. So they believe in a Jesus Christ that will save them from all their fears of death.
“If you are religious at all it is overwhelmingly probable that your religion is that of your parents. If you were born in Arkansas and you think Christianity is true and Islam false, knowing full well that you would think the opposite if you had been born in Afghanistan, you are the victim of childhood indoctrination.”
― Richard Dawkins, The God Delusion

@James25 I was raised Roman Catholic but always felt like I was going through the motions.

I’d say yes it’s a big part of their background, fear of death or anything different.

The vast majority would simply have inherited the beliefs taught to them since early childhood. I'd say that this applies to most of us, whatever beliefs we hold.

There is the "spirit of the age" and there is the "spirit of the depths" (Carl Jung) Most of us succumb to the spirit of the age and never seek the "depths" where true wisdom can be found.
