Why do Christians conflate these two characters?

Satan and the serpent from Genesis. They are clearly different characters. Why do so many Christians conflate the two?

Because The Book of revelations makes it clear that they are one and the same..

(Revelation 12:9) "And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him."

So this verse makes it clear to all Christians that the Serpent from genisis is Satan, the devil.. It also identifies the great dragon to be satan also..

@Adstar I think you should get best comment. It all checks out.

Why would I give this best answer? It is incorrect. @specman

@Imsleepy you’re trying to lure me to get into an argument with you!

I think he deserves best comment because his comment is true. If you don’t believe it you can read it for yourself. It says exactly what he commented. For you to say he’s not correct is what I would expect you would say. But you would have to be a special kind of stupid to not be able to read it as plain as day.

@Imsleepy what causes you to think my answer is incorrect?

The Bible clearly states that the serpent in genesis is a wild animal. The serpent was also cursed to go onto its belly, forever. The dragon in revelation is said to be standing. They can’t be the same character unless you ignore this contradiction.
I’m curious, do you believe that “ha Satan” from the book of Job is also the same character? @Adstar

We can have a discussion without it becoming an argument. @specman

@Imsleepy satan manifested as a serpent in the garden.. satan himself was a hybrid angel type.. He had wings for instance..

But as for my answer .. You asked why do ""CHRISTIANS"" believe that the serpent in the garden of Eden is Satan.. My answer was taylored to your question.. It is true that Christians believe satan is the serpent in the garden of Eden because the Bible tells them so..

Yes satan can manifest as a dragon with wings.. maybe if God allowed it satan could manifest as a tiger or a crocodile..

I’m curious, do you believe that “ha Satan” from the book of Job is also the same character?

Yes.. satan had access to heaven and to earth.. He still has access to earth.. He will in the future be cast out of heaven with his angels which make up 1/3rd of the angels.. That's another revelation from the Book of Revelation..
@Adstar

That event already happened, that Satan, along with 1/3 of the angels that followed him in rebellion to God, tried to take over God's throne, then was thrown out of heaven. That's when Satan went on his rampage on earth, against God, to turn people away from God, and two of these people were Adam and Eve.
Adstar · 56-60, M
@ReflectionsInTime When in history was satan cast out of heaven with His angels knowing his time is short and went on a rampage on earth ????

Do you think it was around the time of Adam and Eve ???
@Adstar i believe the event in the Garden of Eden, was the first encounter we see of Satan starting his rampage against God, when he tempted Eve. God created Adam and Eve as the first two humans on earth, so it appears that they were Satan's first targets, in Genesis.

By her sin, Eve, as the first woman, lost the original holiness she had received from God, not only for herself, but for all humans.Adam and Evetransmitted to their descendants, their sinful human nature, by their own first sin, called "original sin".
Adstar · 56-60, M
@ReflectionsInTime So to be clear about this you believe satan was cast out of heaven never able to return Before he decieved the first two human beings.... Yes?
@Adstar No. The account of Job, tells us that Satan returned to God to talk about Job. Revelation says that in the end, Satan shall eventually be bound and chained in Hell, along with all who worship and follow him, including the fallen angels.
Adstar · 56-60, M
@ReflectionsInTime Yep you got it Job was AFTER Adam and Eve,,, and satan CLEARLY had Access to Heaven Long After His sabotage effort in the Garden of Eden... So that totally shoots down the traditions of men doctrine that satan was kicked out of heaven before Adam and Eve where deceived..

Satan had been traveling between heaven and earth all that time...

(Job 1:6-7) "¶ Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them. {7} And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it."

The final war in heaven where Micheal and His angels will defeat and evict Satan and his angels will happen just before the return of the LORD Jesus Christ..

Satan shall eventually be bound and chained in Hell

You got that one wrong too... Satan shall be bound in chains and cast into the BOTTOMLESS PIT for 1000 years when Jesus second coming happens and the army of the beast is destroyed and the beast and the false prophet are cast into the eternal Lake of fire.. The Bottomless pit is not Hell.. The bottomless pit is not the Lake of Fire.. It is the Bottomless pit..

1000Years later satan will be released from the bottomless pit and go out into the world to deceive the nations Gog and Magog and will lead them to Jerusalem and will be consumed by fire from heaven..

(Revelation 20:7-9) " {7} And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, {8} And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. {9} And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them."

Only after this will satan be cast into the eternal lake of fire where the beast and the false prophet are, having been there in torment for those 1000 years..

(Revelation 20:10) "And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever."

And that's when the final judgement will happen and people will either be granted eternity with The LORD in the New Jerusalem or be cast into the eternal lake of fire..

Now i know your where taught all these doctrines that do not line up with scriptures.. When i was a kid i was indoctrinated in them as well.. It was only after i read the Bible that i could discern the difference between Biblical Christianity and the doctrines of men.. I strongly suggest that you Read the Bible and pray for The LORD's guidance when you are reading the Bible..
@Adstar Please re-read your own statement, where you say: Yep you got it Job was AFTER Adam and Eve,,, and satan CLEARLY had Access to Heaven Long After His sabotage effort in the Garden of Eden... So that totally shoots down the traditions of men doctrine that satan was kicked out of heaven before Adam and Eve where deceived..

Job was clearly AFTER Adam and Eve. Satan was kicked out of heaven BEFORE Adam and Eve... his first two creation so that means that the incident with Job came AFTER Adam and Eve.
