Why do Christians conflate these two characters?
Satan and the serpent from Genesis. They are clearly different characters. Why do so many Christians conflate the two?

Monolithic ideation. Anything that they didn't like was just thrown into this giant trash pile of other until it gained sentience. So serpents, Satan, Philistines, Babylon, Nero, etc... They all morphed into "The Satan". You see the same thing in modern times with LGBT+, immigrants, POC, etc... They are Satan now.
