Why do christians so often make out like homosexuality is some huge sin? More terrible than any other? I mean let's accept that it's sinful because the book says so, but why such an intense reaction while other sins are just glossed over?

Much of the bible is just glossed over, one of the biggest things ignored in the old testament was the way to treat a woman during her period. She also needs to sacrifices doves to become clean.

There was also a story where a dudes concubine was raped, so he cut her up into pieces and sent her body parts across Israel.

People just cherry pick the bible to reinforce their own agendas, or to make themselves feel good.
