Questions for Saved Christians

When a saved Christian dies,
one Bible verse states that they are asleep. Their bodies will be risen again at the Rapture.
Now, according to what Christ said to the thief at His crucifixion, "Today you will be with me in paradise, (heaven.)
Question 1: If our souls/spirits are in heaven after we die, why do we need our bodies to be resurrected?
Question 2: Are we judged by God, (stand in judgement,) after we die or after our bodies are resurrected?

There are many interpretations of what take place. I believe that you become immortal when you become born again. You have passed from death to life. When your body dies you take on your heavenly body in the "twinkling of an eye". You don't sleep nor does any time pass before you take on that new form. If you are not born again you are already judged so the judgement took place before not after your body physically dies.
