Do you have a Bible, any Bible. What do you get from it ?

I may be the only atheist who owns more than one Bible.
I like the stories from the old testament.
I like God's no B.S. way of handling things.
I respect those who do have faith even though I don't.
I keep it on hand for reinforcement reference on touchy topics.
Like I can say .. " It even says that in the Bible".

@Dainbramadge That IS quite unusual :)

"I respect those who do have faith even though I don't."
My thoughts exactly :)

@Dainbramadge I love your mature attitude. I always have to wonder about atheists who not only rival the vegans for broadcasting their opinion, but aggressively confront and harass Christians. I get the impression that it's not that they don't believe in God, but that they do, and for some reason, they hate Him.

@AbbeyRhode Thank you so much for that. :-)
I personally think the ones who try and berate those of faith are maybe trying to prove to them selves that God doesn't exist.
"I think the lady protest to much" .. type thing.
I think they want to believe that there is no higher power but have to constantly test their own lack of faith.

@Dainbramadge Good point. Someone secure in their belief, or non-belief, would not feel the need to attack others.

@AbbeyRhode That's what I think.
I eves dropped on a conversation here where someone was trying very hard to dispel another's faith with logical assertions. I can't remember verbatim what was said but it may have been oriented in evolution, but I jumped in and said " Isn't that cool how God made that happen?"
They couldn't counter it because it actually fit their narrative overtone.
I don't much any more but I used to go out of my way to defend those of faith in those situations.
The assumption was that because I read the old testament and a bunch of the new, that I was one of faith as well.
LOL
@Dainbramadge you might be the only atheist who's owned any Bible.

@Dainbramadge Love it. :)
That's the difference. Most atheists have never touched a Bible, and know nothing about what they so violently reject. It's not so much that they don't believe, as that they don't even understand what they dislike so much.
Dainbramadge · 56-60, M
@AbbeyRhode But isn't that kind of a common trend now days. Maybe it always was and we just get pummeled with it more so because of social media.
I think for the most part it is probably normal to fear anything you don't understand.
But I have yet to read anything in the Bible so far that would or could be seen as restrictive.
What is there to not agree with really?
AbbeyRhode · F
@Dainbramadge That is true. I see it everywhere, people hating other people or things that they are completely ignorant about. They look so silly when asked why they hate ---, and they have no answer.
Exactly. People with normal morals have nothing to fear from it.
It seems that currently, a lot of them just jump on the bandwagon of their favorite celebrities or friends, without having any real knowledge of why they are there.

@AbbeyRhode Yup. They do love a dog pile.
I have seen so many videos of people doing that very thing that I don't even look any more.
I scroll past as fast as I can if it even looks like one of those kind of videos.
I think I am trying to make myself believe it isn't so common.LOL

@Dainbramadge And Hollyweird and the media are the wrong ones to follow. They normalize all of the worst and most disgusting behaviors, while demonizing what's normal and decent. Gullible people see their idols doing awful things, and others applauding them for it, and they think it's OK.
