This can't be right because Genesis states that Adam ate the fruit given to him by Eve from the tree of knowledge. Eve had to eat the fruit first to get the knowledge, and then give it Adam. So, since Eve could not possibly eat herself, there must have been a fruit tree of knowledge nearby.

@IM5688 I’d actually read somewhere that the fruit was probably a fig based on early translations. It became an apple in renaissance art to make it more visually distinct.

@Straylight Yes, the Bible says it was a fruit, but no mention of what type of fruit. Being the region that the garden is supposed to be in, I'd say figs are probably a good guess.

@Straylight I read it was probably a banana. Most certainly it was not an apple because those don't grow in the area where it all started.
