I adjust my beliefs based on the evidence.

@BlueSkyKing Asimov's text makes no sense. You don't have to believe in evidence, or measurement. To believe means something essential is invisible to the eye.
@helenS And all other senses? Based solely on anecdotal experience?

helenS · 36-40, F
@BlueSkyKing Oh I don't think God exists in the same sense a tuna sandwich does.
@helenS What is the evidence that a god exists at all? Especially yours?
helenS · 36-40, F
@BlueSkyKing There's no evidence, of course. There's evidence that magnetic quadrupoles exist, if that's what makes you happy.
Penny · 46-50, F
@BlueSkyKing theres no evidence as to why you were born either. that doesnt mean you dont exist.
@Penny My parents had sex, that’s why I was born. There is no evidence that I existed before.
Penny · 46-50, F
@BlueSkyKing youre obviously not getting it.
@Penny You’re suggesting another reason?
Penny · 46-50, F
@BlueSkyKing perhaps some kind of God created us in the first place and continues to play a part in the incarnation of our spirits. its not a difficult thought to entertain

eta- it shouldnt hurt to at least accept the possibility of such a thing
@Penny The burden of proof is not on me. God should know how to provide objective evidence. I wouldn’t deny it, but I refuse to worship it.

Think of all the people that could have been born instead of me. The amount is greater than all the grains of sand on earth. We’re lucky but ordinary.
Penny · 46-50, F
@BlueSkyKing so you think God owes you evidence of His existence? a core aspect of Christianity is developing faith. it would kind of defeat that purpose. just saying..
@Penny I like truth. Faith is a terrible way to find out what is true and is a cop out.
Penny · 46-50, F
@BlueSkyKing well, i guess youre entitled to think how you want. i wouldnt call faith a cop out, quite the opposite really.
@Penny Is it possible that faith can be mistaken or wrong? Would you buy a big ticket item, like a new car, strictly on faith?
Penny · 46-50, F
@BlueSkyKing yes faith can be wrong. faith in science can be wrong too.
@Penny I don’t have faith in science. I trust the methodology of science because it tends to work. Have you ever done baking? It’s vital to follow the procedures. What happens when you deviate from the recipe?
Penny · 46-50, F
@BlueSkyKing look at the state of health advice. theres new findings all the time. like they used to say depression was caused by a chemical imbalance in your brain. they were very adamant about it too. now theyre saying its not caused by that. thats some science for you. as far as baking, baking is a science but also an art too so its not a good thing to use as an example. you dont have ot follow a recipe exactly all the time, your results might just be a little differnt. i mean like yeah you need a leavener if you want it to rise but you dont have to follow a recipe to the mg if you know what i mean to get an adequate result. there can be many ways to make a cake rise as well. not just baking powder, or yeast. you can use an acid as well. im not saying everyone has to believe in God. maybe its in your highest good to not believe in God. its all a matter of opinion but opinions can be changed. i believe strongly in God for many reasons. Maybe you havent had any experiences that would make you believe in one but to keep a closed mind to me is a tragedy. but you know, they say there are many roads to rome.
@Penny Telling me I’m closed minded is an insult. I was raised Roman Catholic. It took decades to let go of the fantasy.

The only thing that trumps science is better science.
Penny · 46-50, F
@BlueSkyKing you maytake my observation as an insult if you wish. its just a rational observation. you wont even consider a belief in God. my ex husband was the same way growing up going to Catholic school lol. he once threw a bible at me when i was just getting interested in learning about Christianity. God doesnt belong to Christianity or catholicism. The idea of God predates that a lot. youre just mad cause i pointed out science can be bullshit too.
@Penny You just can’t help putting words in my mouth. If I knew about the approved slavery in the Bible, it would have been sooner.
Penny · 46-50, F
@BlueSkyKing dont base your belief in God on the bible. you can believe what you want but the bible is whack lol. if i was forcefed the bible as a kid especially teh catholic version id say it fuck it away too lol. but i think God loves us and sends his angels but only if we believe or ask. one thing someone told me is to ask Jesus into my heart and im glad I did because there did come a time when I needed him and he showed up big time. He still does. its all very supernatural and idk if she got that from the bible but i didnt it was through word of mouth. i do think some form of hell may exist but better ot look towards ancient mythology rather than the bible for that. not saying the bible is all bad buta lot is bad too. to me its just a weird book that supposedly holds recollections of Jesus. there are many books in this world. why arent any of them just as as important?
