Pastor's sobering sermon on Christ's return.
I remember the sermon my pastor made a while back about standing before the judgement seat of Christ- you and Him, no friends, family or pastor to help you and how convicting it was, he made a couple of points on Sunday's sermon that were equally convicting and affected me but first another point he made.
Why does the world hate the TRUE Christ? Because He shines a light on their darkness (John 3:19–20). On my own note a user on here said judgement day would be "God's saddest day". How ridiculous. 2 Thessalonians 1:8 gives a far different picture than that.
The points my pastor made now?
1. From the lips of Christ, the Christ of the Bible, the Christ of the Gospels your eternal destiny will be told to you ! There is nothing in life more sobering than that! There are flaky people in life who always cancel appointments but the judgement seat of Christ is an appointment even the flakiest cannot and will not miss (2 Corinthians 5:10)! Christ's words on your eternal destiny are final- no court of appeal here!
2. My pastor mentioned a perspective I never thought about- imagine the terror of those who have rejected Christ in life when they hear Him say "depart". Imagine their terror during that first half second of finding their eternal destiny is damnation. We get a sinking feeling half a second later after being told in this life we are fired, etc. Well, rejection from Christ will have terror and a sinking feeling no language could describe.
Some final thoughts from my pastor on Sunday's sermon- when Christ returns there will be cries of anguish from those outside of Christ (Revelation 1:7) and shouts of joy from those in Christ (Psalm 16:11) .
And a final thought for those of us in Christ, who have accepted His sacrifice on the cross- John Flavel mentioned that Christ will be as fresh in thousands of years as the first second you saw Him- can I go further and say the first trillions of years? (Ephesians 2:7). Think on this to help having earthly idols and seeing their futility.
